Sorry for such a delay in sending out an email post meeting! You know how it is…busy busy busy…
At the meeting we discussed a few items and I was hoping to hear back from some of you regarding our discussion. I have not heard from anyone. So, please send in your ideas as we discussed.
Forfeits – we need to get a plan on how to handle. A proposal of fining the team that forfeits the cost of 2 umpires was proposed.
I contacted the NH Chairman regarding the formation of “regional teams.” I was wondering how they were doing it so that I could pass it on to you for discussion. They are NOT doing that. They form teams the same way we do. The rule that they follow is the same as us, Player Recruiting Plan B, Rule 4. I spoke with National regarding the building or formation of these such teams and they are not allowed. They approve the Plan A or Plan B As discussed in the rules.
Minimum game play rules – It is something that can be looked at for a JR level (as I have much greater leeway in that regard), but it has been proposed as a rule change at the national level and voted down. So if we were going to try something at the SR level it will likely not be allowed.
Yes I want to do another Legion Showcase. I have made contact with a couple schools and when I have a tentative plan/options, I will let you know.
There was a desire for people to have some sort of information that they could use to recruit players. Since all the dates are already out there and we have a basic framework of the season, I put together two posters for people to share. They have been on social media for a week, so maybe you have seen them, liked them, shared them, etc already. If not, please do! They are also attached to this email. Use as you wish. If things change we will adjust but that is the framework we are working with for 2025.
Regarding the location of the state tournaments: During 2023/2024 I encouraged interested parties to provide me with contact information and direct any interest in hosting the tournament to me. Additionally, under the forms section of the website is a link for “bids to host the State tournament.” This goes directly to me. I have not received any contact since taking the position of Chairman. If there is interest in hosting, please direct all interested parties to me. It would likely be that 2026 is the soonest available at this point, but please contact me.
Specific “positions”- what do folks want to help with/work on to better American Legion Baseball for 2025? I would like folks to be active and helping grow the program as much is possible! I think I will be the Chairman for next year as I have not heard otherwise, but you may have a new leader…and if so, I want to be able to hand off the reigns as smoothly as possible.
